Plot Summary

Vows, Vendettas, and a Little Black Dress is set in San Francisco, a backdrop against which many colorful characters filter in and out of the action. Everything from kinky sex shops to fairytale weddings, from gay hair stylists to Russian spy types with mysterious backgrounds converge to create a reading and listening experience for amateur sleuth, Sophie Katz fans.

Protagonist Sophie Katz, is ecstatic to learn that her friend Maryanne is to be married. The joy is soon cut short, for soon after the announcement, their best friend and bridesmaid-to-be, Dena, is shot in Maryanne's apartment. Her injuries could mean life in a wheel chair.

Sophie is determined to use her detective skills to nab the gunman and has her hands full once she tries to narrow in on possible suspects. Dena has lots of possible suspects, given the popularity of her sex shop and a number of enemies she has made.

Then there is the matter of the wedding planner and boyfriends who don't want Sophie or her friends involved at all.

Impetuous, fearless Sophie will not give in. Half Jewish, half black and a bit more than wild and crazy, Sophie gets herself and her friends involved in many a precarious, sometimes funny predicament that make this one wedding that will be remembered by all.

Kyra Davis knows San Francisco well, having been born there and having spent most of her life living among its colorful people and places.

Like the protagonist in this audiobook, Davis is biracial, half Jewish and just a bit of a free spirit.

She majored in Business and Humanities at Golden Gate University. She has spent time in retail fashion, is a divorcee and is now a single mother. She continues to write light-hearted books with streaks of comedy.

"Funny! The latest in the series. The story revolves around the wedding plans of one of her bff and the shooting of the other. Set in San Francisco, almost makes me want to live there! Hope it is not the end of the series."

Publisher Summary

The peach taffeta Bridesmaid dress- that should be Sophie's problem. Not attempted murder.

Overjoyed at Maryanne's engagement, amateur sleuth Sophie Katz can't wait for the wedding vows and party toasts to begin. But then Dena - best friend, bridesmaid, and all-around vixen - is mysteriously shot just after the announcement. Leave this to the authorities? No way. Dena may never walk again, and Sophie vows to marry her fists with the shooter's face.

Problem is, the number of suspects is off the charts - from jaded lovers to anti-free-lovers to just plain old haters. Dena's made plenty of enemies thanks to her popular sex shop - and, yes, she's no saint - but really, who deserves to be shot?

With an überlogical almost boyfriend condemning her vigilante quest, and a wedding planner going vicariously bridezilla over the dream princess wedding, Sophie's barely thinking straight. But if she can keep her cool (and avoid all errant taffeta), she just might nab her man and save the (wedding) day.

Big if.

" So far, I'm thoroughly enjoying this book! It's a great little diversion from my steampunkish, vampirish, forensic diet of books. Though Ms. Davis does dish up some wonderful mystery and punkish people. I can't wait to finish this one and read her other books in this venue. {Revision: Slowed terribly at the end. Not a very engaging story after a great start. I'm not interested in reading any more of her novels. Sorry. Really became a juvenile murder...} "

" Yeah, can't say I loved this. The storyline wasn't bad, but the characters were kinda bad. The main character was horribly annoying. I would not read this author again. "

" I know some people think Sophie is a whiner. I think she's schizo. I second she is thrilled at her boyfriend and literally a second later she is calling him every name in the book--and the horrible thing is he still hangs around. This book had a lot of that in it and it pulled down my rating because of it; still I did enjoy the story and Kyra Davis pulled out the stops on the surprise ending. "

" I liked this book, I like the characters, but holy cliffhangers. What's with every series book I read leaving me with huge cliffhangers lately?! Even if it's not the end of a series I'm still going to have to wait at least a year for the next one. Booo! "

" It was alright. A pretty good mystery. Probably would've liked it more if I had started at the beginning of the series. Some of the characters were kooky, annoying or just plain nutty. Sophie needs to chill out if her relationship is gonna work. It had a great cliffhanger! "
