Publisher Description

The village school of Turnham Malpas is to get a new head teacher. At first sight, Kate Pascoe seems ideal. But when she introduces meditation classes and tree-hugging, the villagers begin to think again. A strange malaise afflicts the whole village and a sudden, shocking death plunges the village into a state of superstitious dread. And always at the eye of the storm is the head teacher: Kate Pascoe. As May Day approaches, the Rector, Peter Harris, makes it his job to discover the truth as he tries to restore the village to its former tranquil ways.

Rebecca Shaw has written another compelling story in the acclaimed Tales from Turnham Malpas series - beguiling novels that add a liberal dash of darkness to the warmth and humour of village life.

"Books like this are almost as comforting as tea and toast, and that's not just because of the Milly-Molly-Mandy-esque village map at the start of the book. If you're looking for a calm, soothing read, look no further!"

" I was hoping for something like Miss Read's Fairacre, and at first it seemed a bit like it but then it turned into a crappy "mystery" story with violence and B.S. about "witchcraft". Very disappointing. "

" I liked this book, I loved newcomer Kate Pascoe and her wee story she brought to the village. There is laughter, tragedy and a shock death in this latest novel someone I grew to like :(... "

" The quiet of old-fashioned village Turnham Malpas is shattered when hustler Bryn Fields comes back in town to try to drum up some tourist trade and incidentally recapture his estranged wife Georgie. "

" Ninth in the 'Turnham Malpas' series about a small village in the UK. Quite interesting, a little moving at times, but nothing special. Easiest to read after at least one of the others as there's quite a big cast of characters. "
