" Christie Golden's narrative game is strong and her character development can match, but there are fundamental flaws in the basic interactions and assumptions, the world itself, that neither she nor the solid performance by Josh Keaton can overcome. Golden does an especially commendable job crafting the inner voices of Anduin and Sylvanas, making both points of view equally valid and well considered. It's too bad the central conceit of the book is so flawed. The story might have worked as a prequel to Legion, but the idea that the world came together to fight the Legion but somehow Alliance humans still think the Undead are mindless? It's a plot point worthy of a CW show, all drama and eyerolls but completely out of left field, and I choose to believe it was shoehorned in to match the direction of expansion instead of the other way around.
