" Okay, I had about a zillion things I should have been doing and I was just going to read one more chapter .... a few hours later and I had finished the book. Just love the Benni Harper mystery series. It almost feels like the characters are old friends. In this book, Benni and Gabe are still recovering from the events that took place in "Delectable Mountains" just the month before when Gabe announces that his mother is coming to visit. Meanwhile, Hud imposes on Benni to puppysit his not yet housetrained new puppy. Then, as if Benni didn't have enough stress in her life, Benni's overbearing boss wants her to investigate a murder that nobody else thinks was a murder. In other words, just another day in the life of Benni Harper! I must admit that I did guess the mystery before Benni this time! "

" A series I began years ago and have enjoyed, however sometime during the writing the author seems to have found god and I find it a bit of a turn off other than that I like the books being a quilter and lover of light mystery. "

" I like Benny Harper and the quilt pattern names are a plus for me with this author's books. which I find about average as mysteries go "

" This is another cozy series that I enjoy. This wasn't one of the best, but it was readable. "

" I thought this book was kind of a let down after the last one. But I guess it's nice to have a more light hearted book following one so heavy. Anyway, the storyline on this one kind of dragged and I felt they spent way too much time talking about Outsider art which I had no interest in. Also I found Benni to be a little annoying with how she kept pestering Gabe to talk to his mom and insisting it was her business. Not everyone solves their issues the same way. The murder was a little random, but I liked the scene at the end when she walks in on Gabe an his mom, that was nice. "

" Christmas is just a few weeks away, and Benni Harper has tons to do to prepare for a visit from her mother-in-law. When her boss demands her help in investigating the death of a friend, Benni has her hands full. Another good story full of small town flavor and good personal interactions. "

" I just started this series with the previous book Delectable Mountains. I found this one to be fairly good but Benni's relationship with her husband is really intense at times. Other than that it was good. "

" I cannot get enough of Benni Harper...I wait with great anticipation for Earlene to write the next one and then try to read it slow because it makes me so sad to finish....I have read every book in the series and will continue as long as she will write them! "

" The book was ok, light reading, somewhat entertaining. It had some interesting information about folk art. Not sure that I'll look for this author again at the library. "

" I enjoyed this last book in the Benni Harper series. I'll miss the characters in these books, as they seem like old friends now. I like that E. Fowler writes a good mystery, but also develops her characters and shows their personal development and struggles as well. "

" I haven't read the other books in this series, but was able to catch up to the story quickly, as it seems each book is its own story while using the same characters. I enjoyed the mystery and trying to piece together what was happening. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Nichole Rottinghaus | 4/10/2011

" My least favorite in the series. The mystery in this book was overshadowed by all of the relationship issues. I don't mind reading about Gabe and Benni's lives and the personal struggles they have, but since this is a "mystery" novel, I would rather see a bigger emphasis on the mystery itself. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Diane | 12/7/2009

" Mysteries are my book candy. I read them when I travel, and when I know I need an emotionally safe book. I have read every book in this series (Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper series), and am always ready for the next one to come. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Susie | 4/28/2009

" This book is about #14 in the series. The writing isn't wonderful but the characters seem like old friends to me so I keep reading them. "
