From the author of Blue Like Jazz comes a road-trip memoir about three months spent crossing the country in a Volkswagen camping van, wondering out loud if there is more to life than nine-to-five jobs, than the ruts the entire world seem to be stuck in. Follow Don and Paul as they dive headlong into the deepest of human questions and find answers outside words - answers that have to be experienced to be believed.

As you listen to Through Painted Deserts, you'll soon realize this is not just one man's account of finding light, God, and beauty on the open road. Rather, it maps the journey you're already traveling...or soon will be. Download and start listening now!

" Very meandering. Some good points but pretty slow. "

" i absolutely loved portions of this book, but then some of it was just, so so. i underlined alot of great lines and ideas, and i love all the images he brings forth, like the stars are love letters from God. i would recommend it for sure, but just know there are some dry spots in it. "

" This book is about a trip that the author took with a friend in which he learned a lot about himself and his relationship with creation. "

" I have read several of Donald Miller's books and this one just didn't jive with me. I actually read it while I was on a road trip which allowed me to connect with it, however, it still seemed to drag on a bit. Worth reading but not as incredibly captivating. "

" I loved this book. It really inspired me to look for the beauty in my life everyday and to live freely into what GOd has called me to do. After reading this I really wanted to take an amazing awe inspiring road trip! "

" Again, I can't say enough about this author. His mix of humour, his honesty, his thirst for life - it's all very contagious. I love the author! "

" Save your time and just read the Authors Intro or Note at the front. That is worth reading. The rest not so much. I listened to it on audio book so potentially I just missed some stuff I would have got by reading. "

" I totally read this whole book on a road trip from Minneapolis to Phoenix. It really added to what I was reading about Miller's "road trip." "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Sara | 11/25/2010

" The book I liked the least by Donald Miller, and yet the most memorable. I disliked his attitude towards God through the whole thing, and yet, though I didn't want to admit it at the time, I understood it, could associate with it. "

" Decent read. I liked the idea of taking a trip without a specific schedule, but character development was weak. I didn't feel a connection to the characters, didn't get a sense of how their relationship developed and only very weakly saw how their spiritual beliefs changed. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jen | 8/16/2010

" I really like Donald Miller's books. There is something about what he writes and the way he writes that really speaks to me. I can't wait to read another one of his books. "
