Publisher Description

First published in 1999, This Is My Blood is David Niall Wilson's first and most important novel. It is a retelling of the gospel from a very different perspective. When Jesus goes into the desert and is tempted by the devil, there is one temptation added. One of the fallen is raised as a woman to tempt him with the flesh. Instead, the woman, named Mary, falls in love with Jesus and his promise of returning her to Heaven. Cursed to follow him and drink the blood of his followers, Mary walks a fine line between her desire to love and support the Christ and her burning need to return to Heaven.

This novel takes the world of faith, which was the world of men,and of the apostles, and shows it through the eyes of a fallen angel - one who has, in her own words, walked the roads of both Heaven and Hell. She doesn't believe there is a God... she knows. Faithful to the storyline of the original gospels, only weaving in new things when there are gaps in the old, this is a novel of faith, redemption, and ultimate sacrifice.

"Vargas comes through again with a winner. Adamsberg reappears in this one, dealing with a spectre from his past, the Trident. A chance glimpse brings this figure back to his life and gets him on the track that he abandoned years ago. Others are sceptical of his theories. His group at work makes a trek to Quebec and the spectre appears to be tracking him there as well. Does Adamsberg obsession lead him to commit a similar crime. Who is on his side? There are lots of twists and turns and interesting characters."

" When I first started reading this book, I found myself a mix of a bored and confused. I felt the story was advancing too slowly. However, as I read further I grew to appreciate the pace. In the end, I absolutely loved this mystery! "

" The title was a bit scary since I don't usually pick something like this off of the shelf, but I received it as a gift from someone who thought I was into murder-mystery. And while I don't normally go for these kind of books, I was pleasantly surprised. If you like a good, edge of your seat thriller, this won't disappoint. "

" This book was a tremendous amount of fun. The cast of characters is exquisite, and in this book, more than in the other Commissaire Adamsberg books I have read, Vargas gives free rein to her her far-ranging an wild imagination. I loved this book. Total fun. "

" A murder mystery from a French author. Part of the action takes place in French Canada and it is interesting to read how the French view their counterparts in Canada. I stayed up late to finish the book. "

" ANOTHER SEAMLESS MASTERPIECE. UNPUTDOWNABLE. THIS ONE HAS HIM IN THE POSITION OF FUGITIVE WANTED IN BOTH AMERICA & FRANCE. THIS STORY TEST HIS TRUST ON HIS CONFIDANTE N FRIEND ADRIAN DANGLARD. YOU MAY FINALY GET SOME INSIGHT INTO HIS PAST AND USUALLY WELL HIDDEN EMOTIONS. THE BEST OF THE SERIES. "
