"Another complicated, suspenseful novel in the Inspector Lynley series. Her descriptions of the English countryside, life in the villages, and the city of London adds to the enjoyment. This book has two distinct storylines and trying to figure out how they will come to gether is intriguing."

" ..an extremely good writer, she also has a great understanding of the British class system which is V apparent in the relationship between Inspector Lynley & Sergeant Havers "

" This title about sums up the whole deal. It took me about 1/2 way through to start getting it all sorted out in my brain. It is well written as always, which is one reason I like her books. And this one seems quite complicated. I enjoyed reconnecting with some of the regular characters...love Barbara in this one! But now things will change for her. I can't figure out what the author is doing to Lynley....I could scream. Don't like Isabelle AT ALL! "

" It was way too long for my little brain. I'm a slow reader so by the time I was done, I couldn't remember how it had started. I've got another book by her that is even longer. I don't think I'll ever try to read that one. But she is a wonderful writer, so if you're a fast reader by all means read it. "

" I found this book, which is very long - almost 700 pages in the hardback edition I read - quite enjoyable, and it did get better in the latter half, in my view. There were many different points of view, which didn't altogether work for me, and the back story of a murder of a small toddler 20 odd years before the main story took up altogether too much of the novel, in my view. I suspect also that real Inspector Lynley fans might be a bit disappointed, as he doesn't really dominate the book. "

" i liked it ok but i still haven't forgiven the author for killing off lynley's wife 3 books ago and now she's got him interested in someone new. i mean, come on! i am pissed! "

" Another page turner. Not sure why I like these so much, since they are often variations of the same theme. But I do find them engaging. I think Barbara havers is my favorite character and I do find Isabelle interesting, if a bit thuggish. "

" I like the Thomas Lynley series very much and this book was good to read. However I thought there were some problems too, most especially an awkward new love interest for Lynley that seems artificial and hasty. As always like the complex plotting and rich characters. "
