Publisher Description

When Declan O’Connor, Earl of Donnelly, arrives at Hadley Green to meet with Lily Boudine, the new countess of Ashwood, he knows instantly that the lovely woman who welcomes him is not who she pretends to be. In an attempt to avoid an unwanted marriage, Keira Hannigan has assumed her cousin’s identity and is staying at the estate while Lily is abroad. When Declan threatens to expose her, Keira convinces him to guard her secret, then enlists him in her investigation of the missing jewels, for she now believes an innocent man was hanged. Unable to deny the beautiful, exasperating Keira — or their simmering passion — Declan reluctantly agrees. But neither is prepared for the dangerous stranger who threatens to reveal Keira’s lies . . . and Declan knows he must protect Keira at all costs, for she is the woman who now owns his heart.

"This book started slow for me, but it had a very strong finish. The heroine had gotten herself into such a mess, that I was expecting her to just breeze through, but the author did give her consequences. She grew and came to think of others. I'll be reading the next in the series."

" Just could not get into this one. I though the story and romance was slow. And you didn't even get to find out what happened to the jewels at the end!!! BTW this mystery carries on though out the series I was going to tough it out with the next one so I could find out where the jewels were. But I looked it up so far in book three you still don't know where they are. "

" Every now and then you need to return to just plain fluff - I'm paranormalled out and just wanted some good old Victorian mistaken identity- it was a great set up for the next book in the series but I'm not sure I loved the characters or the manor enough to carry on with the series. "

" Listened to this one--Narrator had a great Irish accent for the main characters. JL always gives surprises in her stories. I liked the perspective Lord Donnely, he is an unlikely hero. Kira was funny and I love how she gets Donnely to do what she wants. Fun new series by JL, "

" I felt this book had some of the amusing Regency humor, but a plot with a sad background that kept me from engaging with the story as much as I have with other regency romances. "

" I hadn't read London before and I am picky about my romance authors, so I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It had several interesting twists and fun characters, especially the dur-brain heroine and hero, and an evil villain. I'm looking forward to the next installment. "
