Friends since earliest childhood, Annie, Jake, and Mason have a special bond. When Annie's parents die on the same night that she and Mason get married, the three friends decide to raise Annie's infant sister, Opal, together. Not surprisingly, their bonds of intimacy, already deeply entangled, become strained. As Annie struggles to be both a sister and a mother to Opal, and a wife and friends to Mason and Jake, events take on a momentum of their own. And then, one fateful night, the three friends goad each other into stepping over a line, with shocking, unforeseen consequences for each of them.

Beautifully written and brilliantly vivid, The Worst Thing I've Done is a poignant voyage of self-discovery, resilience, and understanding that resonates long after each character's story is told. Download and start listening now!

" Not nearly as good as Stones In the River "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Stephanie | 2/7/2014

" This book started out slow and I was not looking forward to it, but it began to make sense and it was a good summer read. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Joanne | 2/5/2014

" This is a difficult book - the topic is dark and the characters are in enormous pain. But Hegi is such a wonderful writer, that I left this story with a deeper undersatnding of mourning, patience, love, and forgiveness. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Marianne | 1/21/2014

" This is the first book I read by Hegi, and was pleasantly surprised. I like her writing style, and I thought the way in which she changed the narrator enhanced the storyline. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Marianne Stehr | 1/21/2014

" This book had so much promise, it was narrarated well, the storyline seemed great, but boy did it disappoint. It did not flow, it would end chapters mid thought, is went on and on forever on the mundane. I really was disappointed in what I felt was a waste of a great storyline. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Kathleen | 1/13/2014

" The author tried to tell the same story through the eyes of three different characters and it just jumps around too much to follow sometimes. I also thought the heavy handed political commentary didn't add anything at all to the story. I kept reading, hoping the story would come together, but I got to the end and felt like I wasted my time. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Rose Young | 1/7/2014

" If you are a conservative person you probably do a lot of reading, and not always "conservative" type books. However, this book turned me off because the author felt it necessary to plug her hatred of politically conservative-type people, and especially her hatred of George Bush, the Iraq war, etc. If you are a writer, you really are doomed if you plug your politics with your novels. In short, it makes them SUCK. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kerry | 11/24/2013

" I'd really like to give this dark twisted litte story 3.5 stars, but alas, not an option. My first completion of an ursula hegi book. make me want to read more of her. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Sunni | 11/19/2013

" Just could not get into this...very dull details. I gave up after about 100 pages. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Fergie | 10/30/2013

" This is the first book that I've read in a long time that I hated to put down. I read it in 2 days. Ursula Hegi, my favorite author, didn't disappoint me. I found something redemptive and likable in each of the characters of this book. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Wendy | 10/7/2013

" The writing was well done and had interesting perspectives but I just can't stand the dancing around the histrionics of the Mason character. Just a personal preference to keep that kind of crazy out of my life. The scenery of the book is beautiful in contrast though. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Sharon | 7/2/2013

" Came across this on the new book shelf, and picked it up because I'd read a couple of her other books. I was still going through hell with Danny, so I didn't really appreciate the dark tone of this book. She is a good writer, though. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ayacalypso | 6/23/2013

" Too much time skirting around whatever the "worst thing" was. I don't really remember the ending, so I am thinking it wasn't as bad as the melodrama leading up to it might lead one to expect. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Suki Michelle | 4/10/2013

" Eh. I just didn't care very much for the protagonist. Couldn't quite connect. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Florence | 12/7/2012

" I learned that lumis are gelatinous, luminous marine creatures. I also learned how to determine the sex of a horseshoe crab. That's about it. The novel itself was not very exceptional. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Jeannine | 9/16/2012

" What I read of it was just rambling and horrible. Such a disappointment after reading the complex and interesting Stones From the River. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Rhonda Rae Baker | 8/2/2012

" Coultn't read this novel...expected so much more but found it disjointed and pointless. Not sure if I will approach this author again...humm. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Michele | 7/28/2012

" overall there was something that kept me from loving this book - maybe the dialogue v. narrative structure, or trouble i had with the young girl's voice - but despite that there were moments i found myself rereading a passage aloud because it felt like something perfect. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kaydean | 3/20/2012

" I just finished this one. I liked it even though I thought the politics were heavy handed. The different character insight was a good touch. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Melissa | 2/25/2012

" This was a melancholy story. I liked the characters, but I'm still unsure of what I think of the story. It was well a well written story though. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Joyce | 1/5/2012

" The writing style was confusing in this book. It was difficult switching back and forth between the characters' thoughts and actions. The plot was definitely very complex but I found it somewhat depressing. I enjoyed 3 other of her books in the Burgdorf series much more than this one. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Dawn | 9/4/2011

" One of the worst books I've read--filled with inane dialog that adds virtually nothing to the plot. And the plot? Uninteresting. There's too many good books to waste your time reading this one. Skip it. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Margaret Brett-Kearns | 7/30/2011

" Maudlin and overwrought to the point of near unreadability. I persevered because it is short in length but, in the end, it wasn't even worth the little time I spent on it. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Angela | 7/3/2011

" I ended up liking this book better than I thought I would but it took me until page 150 before I could get into it. With that being said, it is very dark and twisted. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Marianne | 4/26/2011

" This book had so much promise, it was narrarated well, the storyline seemed great, but boy did it disappoint. It did not flow, it would end chapters mid thought, is went on and on forever on the mundane. I really was disappointed in what I felt was a waste of a great storyline. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sara | 3/6/2010
