Wealthy businessman A. D. O'Hagan wants Jan to train one of his most promising young horses, The Frozen North. Nervous and terrified of travelling, the thoroughbred seems impossible to train - until a young stable hand new to Jan's yard discovers his horse-whispering talents.
Meanwhile, a violent robbery leads to an unexpected tragedy and brings an intense rivalry to a head between Jan and fellow trainer Virginia Gilbert.
