Publisher Description

In the two decades since a tragic “accident” took the lives of his parents, Oliver Sharpe, the Marquess of Stoneville, has survived the scandal surrounding that fateful night by living as an unrepentant rakehell. And with his grandmother vowing to disinherit him if he doesn’t settle down and wed, he plans to fulfill the bargain in true Sharpe style — by bringing home a fake fiancée from a brothel! But his scheme is derailed when he rescues an American beauty in a dire predicament instead. Maria Butterfield came to London to track down her groom-to-be, who’s gone missing, but her engagement won’t stop Oliver from getting what he wants: her, in his bed. His rebellious masquerade may call his grandmother’s bluff, but it’s soon made all too real — by a love that tempts him to be a hellion no more.

"Fun, witty, and a great opening to a new series. Really enjoyed the depth of the characters, their the zany quirks, and how it all came about. I also liked the juxtaposition between the tragedy and the new beginnings that the book revels. Can't wait to read the rest of the series. "

" Oliver Sharpe, the Marquess of Stoneville, an unrepentant rakehell, and the oldest Hellion of Halstead Hall, has strived to live a life that laughs at honor and responsibility. His outrageous conduct may have marked him a wanted lover, but has earned him little else in the eyes and ears of society which is just as he wishes. His grandmother and matron of the family, however, has certain and definite contrary plans. Afterall, Oliver is passed the age of sowing his aristocratic oats, and she has waited long enough for him to realize this and take up serious actions to ensure her enjoyment of grandchildren. The line has been drawn, and now the fate of Oliver and his siblings lies in his ability to find a proper wife and quickly. Of course, Oliver is not about to be dictated to nor threatened, but it is his grandmother after all. So, what better solution for all concerned than to "outplay" the "player". Since he's been very successful at avoiding responsibility and a proper, respectable life up to this point. Surely he has learned a little something about manipulation and deception, and Maria Butterfield appears to be the answer to his every prayer. Unfortunately for Maria, it's all about being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Or was it? Fate is definitely fickle! Ms. Jeffries has delivered another entertaining romance with this book in the "Hellions of Halstead Hall" series. It has all the necessary elements that make a romance worth reading -- humor, adventure, drama, wit, passion, and innocence. Although this is Oliver's story the four other siblings are introduced and given enough room to make their presence known and even entice the reader to search out their individual stories, as well. Oliver has a big secret that he keeps close throughout most of this story, but when it is divulged, it's one of those that truly knocks your socks off! I just love those types! You know, the kind of secret you think you've figured out in chapter 2 and by the end of the story you're confident there is really going to be no surprise at all? Well, think again because this isn't one of those kind. I encourage you to read and find out! "

" While I liked the story well enough, it was hard to buy into the fantasy that the hero was falling in love. Oh, the author said it was true, but his actions didn't really fit for a long time. I'm still interested enough in the series to want to see what happens with the next one, though. "
