Publisher Description

Six children decide that the only way to restore the fortunes of their family is to go out and do it themselves.

They produce a series of madcap schemes and one after another try them out with varying degrees of success, most resulting in trouble rather than riches. But then one scheme begins to look more promising than the rest.

"I listened to the Librivox recording of this. I loved the story--it was fun, funny, uplifting, and rewarding. Nesbit is a gifted writer and this is really more of an adult book than a kid's book. There is simply too much adult humor that kids would miss. But I suppose older kids would still enjoy it. Highly recommended."

" A brilliant tale. It was made of the same stuff as Neverland. Cleverly written as if written by Oswald. A well crafted usage and stretching of correlation and causation to bring great adventures out of otherwise ordinary days. The book was one of the funnest reads I've had for a while. "

" Though I thought Nesbit's realistic depiction of children was dead on (the fighting, bickering, making up, playing, imagining, etc.) I sometimes found myself wondering, just how many adventures are these kids going to have? Maybe it's the "adult" in me, lol. "

" A delight, but with reservations. Unexpected burst of humourous writing from E Nesbit. Touches of jerome K Jerome. There are chapters that need a snip here and there and the conceit is not fully realised. It is, nonetheless, a gem. "

" What a fun book! This book might not appeal to all readers because it is a historical fiction but it gives a great look into the lives of children during the Romamtic time period. Because the narrator is a child, this is a delightful read. "
