Anne Jocelyn was beautiful, wealthy, charming and spoilt to the core. She was also killed on a beach in Brittany early in the war. Her estranged husband inherited her money and, three years later, is planning marriage once again. So when Anne arrives at the family home unannounced, having at last escaped Nazi-occupied France, it is a terrible shock. It is even more shocking when a woman close to her is found murdered....

"another great Miss Silver mystery, though Miss S doesn't play a huge part in this book! I so enjoy the fact that there is no sex, no violence, no foul language, but instead a PLOT! yes, I kid you not, a real plot with fleshed-out characters! can't wait to start the next book of hers"

" My first Miss Silver novel. Very good but somewhat dated (written in the 40s). Still, a solid mystery with interesting characters. "

" Patricia Wentworth books usually have a good mystery and a satisfying romance, with a few shady characters and a case of amnesia thrown in the mix. Not great literature, but an entertaining and clean quick read. "

" Enjoyed that. Now off to see whether I can find the rest of the set which I know has been lurking in the house for years. "

" One of my favorite identity/impersonation novels although it was the first Patricia Wentworth I ever read and I did not appreciate it right away. Later I became a huge fan of her mysteries. "

" The Miss Silver mysteries were written in the late 40s/early 50s. They are set in England and written in a Miss Marple/Agatha Christy style. I like them. My sister gave me about a dozen, which I will happily read, but will not enter a separate review for each of them -- this is it! "
