Publisher Description

“Exceptional. Mystery, crime scene drama, and more than enough romance to keep the heart pumping blend seamlessly into an enthralling read that kept me glued to the pages.” —Kim Harrison

“A delectably dark paranormal thriller. I’ve always been a fan of Pettersson’s work, but she knocks it out of the park with this one.” —Kelley Armstrong

Vicki Pettersson, author of the New York Times bestselling Signs of the Zodiac urban fantasy novels, breaks out with The Taken. The first book in her sexy, supernatural noir mystery series, Celestial Blues, The Taken features a former p.i.-turned-fallen angel and a beautiful, tough Las Vegas reporter—the most unorthodox pair of avengers since Jeaniene Frost’s Cat and Bones—joining forces to confront a terror that threatens to wreak murderous havoc in both the mortal and the immortal worlds. A dark and delicious mix of noir mystery, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance, The Taken is a must-read treat for the insatiable fans of Nalini Singh’s angel books, and for the many, many readers who have made Kelley Armstrong, Charlaine Harris, Kim Harrison, and Laurell K. Hamilton fantasy superstars.

"Loved the characters, especially Grif (the Angel, main character). Thought that it was a different take on angels and was not, a mushy type of book where the the character's had to 'fall for each other", in the norm since, and have that instant connection that every book that I have read recently has. It was nice to see that this was not one of those! LOved It. Will defently read another from the series, if she continues."

" I liked the sign of the zodiac series, especially at the end, but this book was just fantastic! A great premise, seriously depraved bad guys and a wonderful heroine. Absolutely can not wait for the next in this series! "

" I wanted to like this book so much because I really do like Petterssons' other series. I had a hard time getting into this one (a trait of her books I forgot about) but my character sympathy did not happen. I also was so skeeved out by the overall plot (which does not get completely revealed until the last 100 pages or so) that I really couldn't like this book too much. Now, her overall concept is pretty interesting, as to a system of angels/types/and what their jobs. I just couldn't find a connection to the characters overall, but I do hope to try book 2. I may not if this one still bothers me too much. "

" This mash-up of urban fantasy, romance with a noir(-ish)/hipster twist surprised me at how entertaining and fast-paced it was. I had a great time reading it in one sitting and it brightened my rainy Saturday quite a bit! As the first novel in the series, a lot of time was spent setting up the supernatural, angelic elements, and though a bit more exposition would have been nice, this was a pretty solid foundation - with plenty of room for the sequel to expand that base. The nostalgic Kit, the female heroine and Griff, the authentically noir Centurion, were not the most developed of characters, but their bantering dialogue and the romantic tension added a lot of fun to the story and made the mystery more exciting. Set in modern-day Las Vegas, Pettersson threw in a lot of different elements here - old-school reporting, P.I.s, prostitutes, mob gangsters, crooked cops, even more crooked politicians and Mormons. There were a few distracting P.O.V. issues (abrupt changes, a lack of focus in maintaining consistency) but the pacing was fast enough and the plot interesting enough that those problems were easily overlooked. I am looking forward to seeing what takes place in the sequel - slated for a March 2013 release. "

" Characters and story didn't work for me and therefore I could get in the book and let me to suspend my disbelief. Which caused book feel forced. Although writing is good as was idea of paranormal noir detective story, but this time execution, I am sorry to say, didn't work for me. "

" I loved this book. Her turns of phrase are thought provoking...which is rare for me to find with as much reading as I do. The author captivated me from the opening pages and I tore through to the end...cannot wait for the sequel. "

" This was great. It's my pick for best new series of the year. I really like both main characters. They are very real (as in believable...). Must read if you like fantasy, this one is very different then all the other ones out ther (the whole noir feel to it is AWESOME!). "

" I liked it - very different. The point of view is an angel who collects people when they die, for the afterlife. That pulled me in. The rockabilly lifestyle is explained. I did think the first half was much more intriguing than the last half, but I did think it was an enjoyable book. "

" Loved it! Fabulous writing. The story is a pleasant mix of murder mystery, noir, urban fantasy and religion that surprisingly just works. I'm mad at myself that I waited a year and didn't read it when author Kim Harrison recommended it came out. "

About Vicki Pettersson

Vicki Pettersson is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sign of the Zodiac series. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Pettersson worked briefly in public relations before realizing that working on assignment wasn’t for her. Instead, she did what any self-respecting Vegas girl would do: She became a showgirl by night and a closet novelist by day. A decade later, she became an “instant” bestseller with the release of the first book, The Scent of Shadows. She and her family divide their time between Las Vegas and Dallas.
