It had been one of the worst crashes in airline history, killing over 300 people and leaving only one survivor. Now the dead were buried and the town of Eton tried to forget. But one man could not rest. "I read this when I was a child and I have never forgotten certain parts of the novel. This would be great to read again! James Herbert manages to create some very awful ghosts. There is an Australian film out based on this book (same title) and it is decent. "

" Not terrible but not great. Saw the twist coming and the ending in general was a let down. The supernatural aspect seemed to fake and forced and the details of scenes almost seemed forced and like they were trying to appear as disgusting as possible. Was a quick read and I could see a (better) movie out of it if the plot was changed slightly. "

" Having just finished James Herbert's The Survivor, I must say that it didn't do much for me. The scenes of suspense were lacking detail and the horror was very tepid. The book is very repititious, as well. Someone dies in weird way, protagonist and others investigate. Plus, there is a gaping hole in the plotting revealed in the rushed and somewhat ridiculous ending. Think of what the movie Sixth Sense succeeded in being aware of in its telling and then compare it to the similar circumstance presented here. Good author, indeed, but The Survivor is definitey among his lesser work. Peace, MT "

" This was a pretty good little story---some great splatter scenes, lots of build-up and suspense...but the end fell a bit flat for me. I wanted more, and the resolution seemed kind of rushed and too easy. "

" I loved this book. It was one of my favourites and inspired me to become a writer myself. Perhaps to an experienced reader now if wouldn't be as gripping, the end twist more obvious. But as a 13 year old at the time it had me hooked. "

" The only book to keep me up at night and then give me nightmares! Its the story and concept behind which was frightening not the actual horror descriptions "

" My least favourite Herbert novel to date, I never really got into it and, although it picked up a bit midway, the ending was disappointing. Perhaps down to a lack of the well written characters and chilling atmosphere the author usually does so well. "
