Publisher Description

The Spook, Tom and Alice travel to Ireland, fleeing from the war in the County. The only thing protecting Tom and Alice is the fragile and precious bloodjar. They must remain together and the jar intact - otherwise they are both at the mercy of the Fiend himself.

Meanwhile Tom is recruited to tackle the evil mage alliance, on a mission which ultimately leads him to the possession of the Spook's Blade. A sword with a dark side and a thirst of its own for blood... It's the only weapon that has a fighting chance against the Fiend in combat. But first Tom needs training, and the only person who can help him is Grimalkin, the witch assassin. Will she come? And if she does, whose side will this creature of the dark be on?

"Better than #7, thankfully. I thought Tom could have been a little more broken up about Alice, but his response was at least in character. Alice is really worrying me now, though. I like that eight books later, I still care about her. And Tom. And the Spook. That's rare."

" Things are picking up for Tom Ward & company (as if they weren't wild enough) & the story seems to have begun drawing to its natural close. This entry finds Tom, the Spook John Gregory, & Alice taking on the Fiend himself as they are forced to travel to Ireland. The relationship between Tom & Alice is becoming more complicated, as the blood jar binding them to each other (& keeping them safe from the Fiend) develops some cracks, & Tome realizes his feelings for her may be more than mere friendship. (The adult reader will have seen this coming quite a while ago.) These books continue to be very enjoyably creepy, a sensation made stronger by the excellently ominous drawings. "

" So far this was my least favorite of the books. It just didn't have as much to it as some of the others. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of "Clash of the Demons" I thought it was a far better book. This one just felt like filler to me. "
