A visionary whose writing broke through the boundaries of the science fiction genre, Philip K. Dick is regarded as a major figure of 20th-century fiction. In 2007, he became the first science fiction writer to be included in the Library of America series.
This collection presents some outstanding examples of his shorter works and includes Colony, Upon the Dull Earth, The Short Happy Life of the Brown Oxford, Faith of Our Fathers, The Days of Perky Pat, The Variable Man, and I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon. Investigating spiritual questions through science-fiction imagery, these stories explore the boundaries of human consciousness as they present such themes as multiple realities, creating life, and man's relationship to God.

" Made it to the third-to-last story. While some of the plots had interesting topics, the old-style sci-fi sexism was bothersome and the audio book readers were poor and extremely irritating, so moving on. "
Philip K. Dick (1928–1982) published thirty-six science fiction novels and 121 short stories in which he explored the essence of what makes man human and the dangers of centralized power. Toward the end of his life, his work turned toward deeply personal, metaphysical questions concerning the nature of God. Eleven novels and short stories have been adapted to film, notably Blade Runner (based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?), Total Recall, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly. The recipient of critical acclaim and numerous awards throughout his career, Dick was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2005, and in 2007 the Library of America published a selection of his novels in three volumes. His work has been translated into more than twenty-five languages.
