"I was worried when the book was a bit hard to get into at the start, but once it got going it just kept on rolling. Another unique magic system and another book with a twist I didn't see coming at all. Looking forward to the next...just have to pick it up first. "

" I had some trouble getting into this book at first, but once the plot got moving, it was a real pleasure to read. The universe of the books is really interesting and left me wanting to discover more. Put very simplistically, it's a modern world with comic book heroes secretly running around in it. I personally think there could be way more superhero urban fantasy on my shelves. The main character (Joanna) has a chip on her shoulder the size of Vegas and is sometimes annoying but I think I'd hang out and have drinks were we to meet in real life. As I've already mentioned, the plot was a little slow at first, but it really picks up steam by the end. I purchased the sequel very soon after I finished. "

" It was the Kim Harrison blurb that got me. Sort of an odd comic book styling obviously slanted towards the romance fantasy crowd aka women. Very readable, I will probably read the next in the series. Really doesn't compare to my beloved Rachel of the Hollows however. "

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Pettersson worked briefly in public relations before realizing that working on assignment wasn’t for her. Instead, she did what any self-respecting Vegas girl would do: She became a showgirl by night and a closet novelist by day. A decade later, she became an “instant” bestseller with the release of the first book, The Scent of Shadows. She and her family divide their time between Las Vegas and Dallas.
