Told in the timeless style of Anne McCaffrey, The Rowan is the first installment in a wonderful trilogy. This is sci-fi at its best: a contemporary love story as well as an engrossing view of our world in the future.

The kinetically gifted, trained in mind/machine gestalt, are the most valued citizens of the Nine Star League. Using mental powers alone, these few Prime Talents transport ships, cargo, and people between Earth's Moon, Mars' Demos and Jupiter's Callisto.

An orphaned young girl, simply called The Rowan, is discovered to have superior telepathic potential and is trained to become Prime Talent on Callisto.

After years of self-sacrificing dedication to her position, The Rowan intercepts an urgent mental call from Jeff Raven, a young Prime Talent on distant Deneb. She convinces the other Primes to merge their powers with hers to help fight off an attack by invading aliens.

Her growing relationship with Jeff gives her the courage to break her status-imposed isolation, and choose the more rewarding world of love and family. Download and start listening now!

" I'm fond of scifi, and liked this book, though I will admit that the ones that followed it weren't as enjoyable to me. "

" Loved this book about how Federal Teleport and Telepath had developed after Peter Reidiger got it going. Psionic powers, space flight, romance, aliens ... what more can you want? "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Erin | 1/23/2014

" Another one of my leftovers from childhood. Liked this book a lot. Still do, too. Has some stuff in it that I definitely did not pick up on as a kid but over all really fun. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Pete Bartel | 1/23/2014

" Not up to her usual standard as its a bit thin on plot. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Faye | 1/22/2014

" Been so long since I'd read this, forgotten how brilliant it was. This was the book that got me into female written scifi in a big way. So full of evocative descriptions, makes you feel like you're actually there. Only a few scifi writers invoke this with me. Will have to search out the rest of this series and the Talents series again. Another of her gems is the Crystal Singer trilogy. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Allison | 9/16/2012

" This is one of my favorite books. Space sci-fi + a bit of romance. A very well-built universe, which is important in sci-fi. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Alex | 5/5/2012

" At first my mother wanted me to read it, and I thought it would be a cheesy romance story... I was wrong. This was an amazing book that I'm glad I read, it had a good story line and a balance of romance and action. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Susan Tietjen | 3/1/2012

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Joanna | 12/28/2011

" McCaffrey tends to over-do her female leads sometimes, and the Rowan and Damian are prime examples of this (no pun intended). I still liked the books very much however because they're an easy fun read. They're more sci/fi-romance-adventure really. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Rachel | 8/13/2011

" A good read if you like Anne McCaffrey, but it does tend to stay on the mold she creates: neglected girl makes good. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Julie | 8/9/2011

" This book got me hooked on sci and is one of my writing influences "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Vivian | 7/20/2011

" An important aspect of making stories believable is in the character development; instead, Anne McCaffrey spends hundreds of pages describing how spaceships and goods are teleported around the galaxy. (This is about as interesting as reading a UPS manual.) "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Anastasia | 6/27/2011

" Too young and simplistic for me. The beginning was interesting, but around the middle, as the Rowan meets her true love, all the tension went out. They are immediately in love? Strange, and boring. Not enough complexity in the underlying world, in the characters or their relations. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jess | 5/18/2011

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Marlo | 4/17/2011

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Nick | 3/27/2011

" It's great to have strong female characters, but I just wasn't engaged. None of the conflict seemed very urgent or significant. Fairly well written though. "
