    " Loved the storyline! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Johan Tornroos | 2/15/2014

" Well written and thrilling to the end. Characters continue to develop and deepen the relationships started in "the Pawn", without feeling forced or convenient. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Neill Smith | 2/12/2014

" A large corporation has contracted with the American military to build a top secret weapon. Within the business organization were spies and psychopaths each with their own agendas, working together and against each other to gain control over the weapon. Patrick Bowers has been called in to investigate a series of arsons using his skills of geographical profiling and opportunity analysis to determine the connections between them and the likelihood of a serial offender. As he investigates he finds the arsons are connected to the development of the weapon. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Phil Geissler | 2/12/2014

" I think this is my favorite of the Bower series books. James is an awesome writer, do yourself a favor and get this book, you won't regret it! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jean Birch | 2/4/2014

" This book was ok, but I forced myself to finish it to see if there was any Christian message since it won the Christy Award for suspense. Only very vague reference to faith or God. I don't see it as being "Christian fiction". "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Rhod | 1/29/2014

" Really like this author. The whole book is gripping, especially the last 100 pages - the windup of several actions. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Saija | 1/29/2014

" This book captured me and I really enjoyed it - as much as murder books can be enjoyed.. It was a great mystery/police drama. It had a few plot lines and was definitely left open for a third book in a series which I plan on reading (I have not read the first in the series yet). I liked the fact that not only did it keep my attention with the mystery plot line, it also hinted at our innate evil nature and the battle between good and evil. I would recommend it. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Emily Hazewinkel | 1/24/2014

" Good book! Kept me going and wondering, "who did it?" I think I may have enjoyed this more than The Pawn. The only thing I've noticed is that the person who did it is always in the background-some obscure, small character that I sometimes overlook and then have to backtrack to find out who they are and how they play into the story. But this is a very good read, fast paced, and more humor than The Pawn. Get started on this series!!!!! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Lisa | 1/24/2014

" Unpredictable and full of suspense all the way to the end. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Diane | 1/17/2014

" Book 2 was just as thrilling as book 1. The story continues right up to the end, just when you think it's over! Looking forward to book 3. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Patty | 1/15/2014

" I enjoyed this 2nd book much more than the first - maybe because I was more familiar with the characters. Now planning to read the rest of the series. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Steve Isenhower | 12/24/2013

" Good book. Not as good as The Pawn, primarily because James put a twist in the story that was just not feasible. But the overall story line was good and I really like the explanation of the family and personal dynamics. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Patricia | 12/4/2013

" Another great Steven James book. I didn't give it 5 stars because it started out rather slowly. The end was terrific! I'm ready for the next his next book!! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Susan | 12/4/2013

" I'm getting a little put out that this author has no trouble in describing despicable acts of violence but allows no cussing or sex in his writing. One reviewer mentioned that he was a "Christian" author. I don't understand this thought process... "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Don Knight | 11/30/2013

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ann | 10/9/2012

" Taking turns between creepy, intense, heart-breaking, and (to a lesser degree) light-hearted, The Rook is a great follow-up to The Pawn. I'm interested to see where Mr. James takes the story from here; the ending definitely leaves room for a sequel, so my curiosity is piqued. "
