Nothing stays dead for long. The dead are returning to life, intelligent, determined... and very hungry. Trapped by the undead, escape seems impossible for Jim Thurmond. But Jim's young son is alive and in dire peril hundreds of miles away. Despite overwhelming odds, Jim vows to find him - or die trying.

Joined by an elderly preacher, a guilt-ridden scientist, and a determined ex-prostitute, Jim embarks on a cross-country rescue mission. Together, they battle both the living and the living dead... and the even greater evil that awaits them at the end of their journey. This is the time of...The Rising.

" Not just your regular zombie story. The zombies have some unique characteristics. If you like zombie books then try it. You won't be disappointed, . "

" Exceptionally brutal zombie novel. I am becoming a huge Brian Keene fan. The Rising is one of his earlier books, perhaps his first, but he starts out with a strong recognizable style that doesn't alter. This one has zombies but with a big twist which I will leave for the reader to discover. Four stars for being vastly entertaining and another half star for the zombie goldfish and the zombie bunny rabbits equaling four and a half stars. "

" I am a zombie nut, and this first novel did not disappoint. The zombies are quite a bit different than what most of us are used to, but that makes them all the more terrifying! This is the story of Jim who goes on a long journey up the East Coast to look for his son Danny after the zombie apocolypse. He is joined on this search by some unlikely friends like a preacher and a drug addicted prostitute. Be sure to have the sequel City of the Dead handy when you get to the end of this one. "

" Keene's novel ramps the zombie genre up a couple of notches, much as Skipp & Spector's work did for the rest of the horror genre in the 80's. This is a fast-paced adventure with some characters that start out as not especially likeable or distinct that evolve admirably by the end. The ending is the only quibble I have with the book; it just kind of stops without a resolution, so you have to go find the sequel, CITY OF THE DEAD, to get closure. "

" A zombiefest of a story. Big gross factor. My kind of book. "

" One of a series of zombie books by Brian Keene, that can be read in any order. Brilliantly written, and the stories interlock a la Stephen King. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Stefanie | 12/13/2013

" This book was terrible. Badly written with a cliff hanger ending which means a second book I will definitely not read. I don't even know why I finished this one expect that it was pretty much the only thing I had to read at work. The really sad part about this book is that it could have been good. "

" This was a great book. It has an entire mythos behind it that loosely ties in with his other books. I highly recommend him. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Danielle | 9/30/2013

" Totally gross. Just what a Zombie book should be. I offered to let a friend read it and she couldn't get past the first 5 pages. That's a winner in my mind. Every now and then, literature is overrated. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Maddie | 8/14/2013

" I like the fact that Keene tried to write a book with a different take on zombies; the traditional zombie story becomes so repetitive, but honestly, I didn't like this book. It was an interesting idea, yes, but I didn't like the way that he carried it out. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 William | 9/21/2012

" Well written fast moving tale that puts a different spin on the zombie genre. zombies are evil so the thought of them being demon influenced is easily swallowed. "

Excelente, pero no estoy muy convencido del final.... aún así, si les gusta la novela zombie, llena de acción y giros inesperados es altamente recomendable!
