Plato Constantine Jones has a Greek mother and a Welsh father, so he's always had the feeling that he belongs to two countries. But he finds out much more about divided loyalties when he travels to Greece for his grandfather's funeral. It is a strange, rather frightening occasion. The villagers watching the funeral procession are silent and hostile, and it seems that Plato's grandfather has been shunned by them ever since World War Two.
Plato's Welsh grandfather had been a war hero, but it looks likely that his Greek grandfather had done something terrible. Finding out the truth about the bitter cost of war, Plato Jones begins to find out more about who he really is, and how complicated life can be.
