Publisher Description

Clayton Miller's life is a mess. His career as one of the country's best comedy script writers has stalled, and his long term girlfriend has left him for his ex best friend and ex writing partner. Just when he thinks his life couldn't get any worse, he commits a spectacularly public fall from grace, and with the press hounding him, his agent banishes him to the middle of nowhere until the dust has settled.

At a remote country house he meets Alice. Alice Shoemaker is a voiceover artist who habitually goes to great lengths to avoid telling the truth. After agreeing to help out a friend, by shopping and cleaning for the unknown man staying at Cuckoo House, she soon becomes suspicious that her strange and obnoxiously rude client has something to hide. But equally so does she. When they discover the truth about each other they form an unlikely friendship, but then Alice discovers Clayton has betrayed her in the worst possible way.

"Although the general story of this book is predictable, it's the twists and turns of the main characters' back-stories that reel you in! I love the interactions between Clayton and Alice, but I think what really sold me on the story was a side character, George. All the characters seem real, which is sometimes hard to do. I really enjoyed it, at times I was laughing and others I was crying."

" I picked this up again as I had run out of new things to read. I do love books by Erika James and this one was more special since it was signed by the author herself when I went to her local book signing event in March 2010. "

" It was a bit long in the tooth and was a little dull on occasion, you want to keep your chick lit punchy and fast paced for the most part, and because of the lags in the story, only three stars. "

" This is how books should be written! The character development was incredible - you rooted for them even when they were being stupid. Of course - it was a little predictable - however - I love happy endings! Worth the read - that being my humble opinion. "

" I liked the writing style of EJ--reminded me a lot of an Anna Maxted story. Kind of darker chick-lit. At times the female lead seemed a bit too stubborn, but it was a fun enough read for me. Liked George a lot--Rufus and Natasha's ending seemed a bit dire, but oh well... "
