Single mother Callie has come to rely heavily on her best friend Suzy. But Callie suspects Suzy's life isn't as simple as it seems. It's time she pulled away - going back to work is just the first step towards rediscovering her old confidence. So why does she keep putting off telling Suzy about her new job? And who will care for her rather frail daughter, Rae, while she is gone? Suzy and Callie live close to each other on a typical cramped, anonymous London street. Neighbours seem to move in, and move on, before you have even learned their names. Callie's increased sense of alienation leads her to try to befriend a new resident on her street, Debs. But Debs is anxious, odd. You wouldn't trust her with your child - especially not if you knew anything about her past.

" Loved, loved loved this book! Creepy good; you will wonder, who exactly is the crazy one? And who exactly CAN you trust your children with? "

" Absolutely gripping - been a while since I could not put a book down, half dreading what was to come next and half desperate to know. Utterly compelling suburban drama set in London with a fascinating sub text about inner city isolation and claustrophobia which I can well relate to. "

" I chose the book after 2 friends read it. Right from the start I had the feeling that the initial story wouldn't be how it ended. Looking forward to more by Louise Millar. "

" great book! Left subtle clues so not too overwhelmed with new twists "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sandy | 2/8/2014

" What an agonizing read!! One naive complacent woman letting others walk all over her and one who does the walking. Then enter the " crazy" new neighbor who turns out to be the one with more brains than the other two put together. There are three men who add more mystery to the women's lives. This book was difficult to read at times....I wanted to scream at Callie to wake up and grow a pair!!!! "

" It had a good premise but I don't think I understood it was set in England and the plot didn't really follow much rhyme or reason.. Not my favorite but I finished it! "

" This was a slow read that gained momentum way too far into the book. Ended abruptly. I would give it 2 1/2 stars. Good overall but not great. "

" Found this story very confusing from page one, however at the end the story all comes together but I found it was a bit late by then as i had lost interest in it after the first few chapters but persisted until the end.... "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Rebecca Ryan | 12/19/2012

" A deceptively subtle thriller with plenty of twists. However, the book is let down by an abrupt ending, as if the author ran out of time and thought 'oh that will do'. The characters could have benefited from a little more depth particularly with regards to their past history. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Julie | 8/6/2012

" A fast paced, fun read about 3 young women in London. One is a happily married mom, one is a single mom and one is a new neighbor. Things are not as they seem! Sort of a creepy mystery. Great beach read. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Abby | 7/30/2012

" I raced through this book because it kept me guessing!! The relationships were tangled and far more complicated than I expected from the title and amazon's blurb! I will look out for another novel by this author. "

" Don't you love how something that scares the crap out of you doesn't have to be supernatural? This book creeps inside you and twists the idea of who you can trust. Sometimes crazy isn't so plain and simple. I enjoyed the book. It kept me guessing and did well in building the suspense. Good read. "
