"Reading Collodi's novel, one is struck by its rich texture. By that, I mean that it is so many things layered into one book, and it defies meaningful classification. It is both complex and dissarmingly straight forward, an honest fairy tale and a chaotic, dark comedy, intended for children and also clearly intended for adults. The only book I can think of as comparable in this manner is The Bible - in that both books can be such a myriad of things so fully... and also be simply what they are."

" I still very very much like this story. When I was a kid, I had whale nightmares, but those memories are not 'alive' anymore, which I can't really say about Alice in the Wonderland or that constant Charlie Chaplin on the swing, eating spaghetti. Where did I come up with that? "

" On the whole, this has to be the least satisfying classic I've read over the past couple of months. I genuinely disliked nearly every character in the book, with special emphasis on Pinocchio. I was rooting for the fireplace rather than the real boy angle. "

" Read this several times, in Italian, trying to improve my Italian. It is much different from the Disnified version. Pinocchio squashes the cricket against a wall by chapter three or four. "

" I did not like reading this book at all. I'm not sure if it's because I read it as an adult instead of a kid or not but it was just a choir. I've never been fond of the story really so maybe it's just me. "
