Ten-year-old Floriana is captivated by the magnificent Tuscan villa just outside her small village. She likes to spy into the gardens and imagine that one day she'll live there. When Dante, the son of the villa's powerful owner, invites her inside and shows her the enchanting Mermaid Garden, she knows that her destiny is there, with Dante. But as they grow up, their romance jeopardizes everything they hold most dear. Decades later and hundreds of miles away, a beautiful old country hotel on England's Devon coast has fallen on hard times, and its owner, Marina, advertises for an artist to stay the summer. The man she hires begins to transform the fortunes of the hotel, and her family, but why is he really there?

" OK.... not as impressed with it as I thought I would be. Slow in places. Ending a little predictable. "

" I really enjoyed this book, though I could have predicted the ending from quite early on! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Stephanie Haussler | 2/10/2014

" Can not express how much I loved this book. Beautiful, poignant, and moving. Well written and intriguing. I listened to the audio book and was sad to see it end! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Renae | 2/7/2014

" This is a beautiful and heart-breaking story. Most of the story was very well done with just a few parts of the plot completely unbelievable. Also, the mystery wasn't mysterious to the reader at all, but that didn't bother me too much. Enjoyable reading. This is the first time I've read this author and I will look for more. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Janet | 1/29/2014

" Another stellar reading my Roz Landor!! She's just amazing. :-) The story had me really hooked from the very beginning. I only listen to these while in my car but when I knew I was nearing the end, I was dying to find out what was going to happen so for the first time ever I actually took the CD into my home and finished listening to it. This is one of those stories where you become really invested in the characters and when it ends you want to know more about what may become of their future. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kim | 1/19/2014

" It took me awhile to get into this book but I'm glad that I didn't give up. It has a slow start but a great ending. I was surprised by how all the characters just took it in stride and were fine with the outcome. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sheryl | 1/14/2014

" The family secrets, 3 generations of woman (a theme in her other book I read), beautiful setting and lots of love...what's not to like. A fun, enjoy time spent with characters I like. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Deirdre | 1/3/2014

" Cute story, wildly unrealistic but a feel-good book nonetheless, with all ends tied up neatly at the end. I would have given it a 4 except that the author failed to create sympathy/connection for Clementine, who was one of the main characters, nor could I understand why Rafa fell for her. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Alma | 1/2/2014

" LOVED this book! One of those books that you can't put down because you're in suspense about what will happen next! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Barbara VA | 12/31/2013

" The cover of this beautiful love story drew me in. Two stories - Tuscany, Italy 1966 and Devon, England present day entwining in a love story. Just beautiful. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Nicky Chivers | 12/27/2013

" This is not the first Santa Montefiore book I have read; I enjoy her storytelling and this book didn't disappoint. There are 2 stories within this book and the way they intwine was clever although the need for the Baffles trail was unnecessary in my opinion "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Gillian | 12/16/2013

" feel like I've read this before, but it's not listed. Italian illigitimate baby in search of his parent. Similar format to Forgotten Garden, 2 interlaced time streams. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Shannon Baas | 12/4/2013

" this was a very interesting story. It is a very complicated love story involving Floriana, later known as Mariana, her son given up as an infant, and step-daughter. There are many aspects to the story. I would definitely recommend this book. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Betty Morrissey | 8/31/2013

" This was a totally random pic from OD. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed listening on my commute. Rosalyn Landon did good job narrating. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ann | 7/16/2013

" Ok book. Moves pretty slowly. Not a "page turner" by any means. Great descriptions. Interesting characters. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Julie Thurston | 9/1/2012

" I really wanted to give this book 4 stars, but it had several things going against it. It dragged much too slowly in the beginning, the plot was too predictable, and it was much too sappy at the end. While it was overall a fairly enjoyable read, I'm not sure I'd recommend this. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Beth | 7/13/2012

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Luc Spiessens | 3/27/2012

" Schitterend, onderhoudend boek. Lang geleden dat een romantisch boek als dit mij zo heeft aangegrepen. De eerste hoofdstukken vielen mij wat tegen maar het tweede deel sleept je mee tot de (on)verwachte ontknoping. Dit smaakt naar meer van deze schrijfster! "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Gail | 2/6/2012

" So disappointing. The author started with a strong story, and then gave up. Not a plausible ending. "
