Nell Whitaker is 15 when war breaks out and her mother sends her to live with her Auntie Kath in a remote farmhouse on Anglesey. At first Nell hates it, but her friendship with Bryn, who works on the farm whilst waiting for his call-up papers, helps a lot. So when he leaves to join his ship, Nell is counting the days to his return. But her heart is broken when news reaches her that Bryn's ship has been bombed and he has been drowned. Determined to bury her grief in hard work, Nell finds herself growing closer to Auntie Kath. As time passes, the women learn to help each other through the rigours of war.

"It took me a while to settle into this one- but did enjoy the book. I think I would give it 3.5 stars if I could! You know what to expect from a Katie Flynn. This one was set mainly in Wales."

" This book really deserves 3 1/2 stars but you can't do that. I liked it but didn't really like it. I kind of figured out how it was going to end about 3/4s of the way through. A nice little read. "

" I nice, easy read. Nothing too dramatic happens and can be a bit long winded at times - but a good storyline. Not Katie Flynn's best - but still OK. "
