Adamine Bustamante is born in Jamaica, inside one of the island's last leper colonies. When she goes to a Revivalist Church, she discovers her gift of warning. But no one has bothered to warn Adamine that when she migrates to England her prophecies of hurricanes and earthquakes will no longer be respected. People will think she is crazy and lock her away in a mental hospital. Now, an old woman, Adamine wants to tell her own story but she must compete with Mr. Writer Man, the novelist who is twisting her words for his own book, and Adamine doesn't know why. In a story about magic and migration, about stories and story-telling, we discover it is never one person who owns a story, or who has the right to tell it.

" An interesting method of writing, beautifully written. The story is told from various characters' perspectives and I wasn't always sure who was speaking. Beautiful imagery in the way the story is told. Kept me guessing about what was really going on, and, as with any story, the teller believes they know the truth...not always the case. Nicely done. "

" This was a beautiful book. I have been a "genre" girl for the last couple of years and haven't read much literary--this made me fall in love with literary works again. Made me cry twice. I loved it--absolutely. "

" Very interesting style of writing. This was an extremely fast read. It kept me completely engaged until the very last page, or was that the start of the story? "

" I loved this book. Just so interesting, so fluid, so not like anything else I've read in a long time. "
