"Still enjoying the series. A lot of it is probably the Texas tie, especially when there is a reference to a place or item I know about (like Shiner Bock). I sometimes wish the main character Tres would carry a pistol as it surely would save him some suffering. However, it would decrease the spots he gets stuck in."

Quotes

  • “In a terrific sequel to The Widower’s Two-Step, which won the 1999 Edgar for Best Original Paperback, the third Tres Navarre mystery finds the academic-turned-PI reluctant to accept a chair in medieval studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio.”

" I like Tres Navarre. Am reading the series out of order, so I know some of what will be happening in the future, but have never felt like I've missed out on any critical details from the past. Tres is an interesting PI and his friends and San Antonio locations are very appealing. "

" I've read the first three in this series. And yes, this is the same Rick Riordan who wrote The Lightning Thief series. The mysteries are convoluted but the characters are fun and Riordan delivers a real sense of of the grimy side of San Antonio. Or, at least, it feels real to someone from Minnesota. These books could do with tighter editing but they are fun vacation reads. "
