Publisher Description

The tragic but doomed love of Marguerite and Armand, recounted so passionately in La Dame Aux Camélias, became one of the great love stories from its first publication in 1848. The title role of the consumptive heroine and her ultimate sacrifice inspired actresses from Sarah Bernhardt to Greta Garbo - and Giuseppe Verdi to write La Traviata. In this sound dramatization, the story of passion and conflict is fresh and compelling as when it was first written.

"I enjoyed this book, it was a light and easy read and I read it with pleasure. I am infinitely grateful to the person who recommend it to me. I really like nineteenth-century literature and I love this book. The romance between Armand Duval and the courtesan Marguerite was very melodramatic. Amazing language, heart-breaking themes, love prevailing. Just an amazing love story in one amazing book."

" I love the classics. I love the pacing and the language. We have lost a lot but also perhaps gained in the language area in this century! Finished it last night. Definately an alone in one sitting book. Glad I read it but I liked Tale of Two Cities better. "

" The Lady of the Camellias was one of my worst book-experiences. I was disappointed. Armand was an anti-man, Margaret was a courtesan... for me it's not ok. I already wrote a long essay about why I hate this book, so I don't want to say anything about it anymore. "
