" My mom has been begging me to read this book for nearly a decade. I picked it up because I thought it would be a good choice of a book to read to my friend Faye, who is 87 and doesn't see well. I read to Faye once a week and wanted something that was easy to read outloud that she would enjoy. She requested a love story. (Though, I had been enjoying Atonement, the prose in that book wasn't fitting to read to Faye. Too descriptive.)I ended up reading the The Horse Whisperer in a weekend after I read the first chapter outloud to Faye. Faye and I are still reading it outloud together, but I couldn't put it down on my own. I really loved it and now I want to see the movie. "

" I loved this book, despite the fact that the author is completely evil and manipulative -- that is, completely jerks around his readers' emotions. At least this reader. I was emotionally exhausted after reading it. I felt like I lost my best friend when I came to the end of the book. But whatever you do, do not see the movie. It was wretched. "

" Fantastic read, a beautiful story that I couldn't put down. This novel is about a mother, daughter, her horse and a horse whisperer. It tells the story of a dramatic accident and the mothers search for help and healing for the family. It is full of emotion that carries you alone with it. A must read. "

" This book was good, but the movie was even better in my opinion. (A rare phenomenon!) The movie script was written for a family friendly audiance and it proved true. "

" A good read, but I kept seeing how it lends itself so well to a movie (although I haven't seen the film) and wondered if it had been written with that in mind. Maybe not, but I can certainly see Robert Redford casting himself as the hero. Pretty dramatic story, kept my interest, but I was disappointed and angry at how Tom & Annie end up acting on their infatuation with each other. It's so Hollywood, but then so are so many other themes in the book. I admired Tom's backbone and integrity when he refused Annie's offer to divorce (because of the trauma it would cause to Kate), but his decision to get himself killed by the stallion in front of Kate kind of belies that admirable sentiment. It's bothered me a lot in the days since I finished it. The ripple effect of those betrayals that seem to happen so frequently today. As a good friend advised: 'Keep the fires burning in your own fireplace'. Things don't just 'happen'; we have choices. Well. "

" I thought the book was good in the beginning but lost something at the end, got a little too corny for my taste. It was a quick read and it was interesting to learn a little more about horses, since I know nothing. I don't think this author is too good at writing love scenes! "

There were too many event all jammed together. But in general I liked the story and writing, although I wish there was more from Grace's perspective. "
