Once upon a time, Ellie had her 'happily ever after' moment when she married her beloved Nick. But 15 years later, her husband's tragic death leaves her alone with their son and facing a mountain of debt. On the brink of bankruptcy, Ellie decides to rent out some rooms. And all too soon, the indomitable Allegra, estranged Sabine on secondment from Berlin and lads' mag aficionado Matt enter her ordered but fragile existence - each with their own messy life in tow. Ellie finds herself forced to step out of the pages of the romantic novels she hides behind, and learn to live - and love - again. Maybe a new chapter is about to begin for them all....

" This was a good story about a woman who is recently widowed and how she begins to cope with her life without her husband. It was a good story but some parts were predictable. "

" Rowan Coleman is a British treasure. She always creates strong women in difficult family situations with warmth and humor. I think she is much like Marian Keyes. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Alisa | 1/20/2014

" As usual, doing my rounding up from 3.5 stars. This book was a quick read, but really made me consider the preconceived notions about what is forgivable or not, and just how often we see what we want to see, no matter what the evidence to the contrary. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Jane | 1/5/2014

" The title of the book I read by Rowan Coleman is The Home for Broken Hearts, no "Happy" in the title, but the one with "Happy" is the only one that came up. Until near the end, the only ones with a broken heart are the mother and son, so the title is a bit misleading. A decent read, though. "
