Publisher Description

Phryne Fisher is doing one of her favorite things -dancing at the Green Mill (Melbourne's premier dance hall) to the music of Tintagel Stone's Jazzmakers, the band who taught St Vitus how to dance. And she's wearing a sparkling lobelia-coloured georgette dress. Nothing can flap the unflappable Phryne -especially on a dance floor with so many delectable partners. Nothing except death, that is.

The dance competition is trailing into its last hours when suddenly, in the middle of Bye Bye Blackbird a figure slumps to the ground. No shot was heard. Phryne, conscious of how narrowly the missile missed her own bare shoulder, back, and dress, investigates. This leads her into the dark smoky jazz clubs of Fitzroy, into the arms of eloquent strangers, and finally into the sky, as she follows a complicated family tragedy of the great War and the damaged men who came back from ANZAC cove. Phryne flies her Gypsy Moth Rigel into the Autralian Alps, where she meets a hermit with a dog called Lucky and a wombat living under his bunk.... and risks her life on the love between brothers.

"Phryne reminds me of the old Jessica Fletcher joke that wherever she goes there is a murder and this time at the conclusion of a dance marathon where there is more going on than just a murder. Blackmail and unrequitted love. Still, that is the handsome band leader to keep Phryne focus."

" As always, this series does not disappoint. I think Phryne might be one of the greatest female characters out there right now. I love that she is brave, smart, beautiful and cunning all at once. I can't wait to read the next one! "

" I can't say this is the best of the Phryne Fisher series. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I'm rather disappointed in it. While it had all of Greenwood's typical style and verve, the story was quite poor. Phryne never solved the main mystery. Or, to be more correct, she solves it, but then she flies off to solve another case and leaves the reader hanging as to who committed the Green Mill murder. Perhaps Greenwood is counting on clever readers to figure it out for themselves and to deduce how it was done. Well, right now, I'm not feeling so clever and would like for someone in the story to spell it out for me. "

" Fun. Not as engrossing as the last one, Victoria Dock-perhaps because that one involved a lot of history and politics and this one was more of a straight murder mystery. But still fun. "

" Phryne Fisher's adventures continue as someone is murdered during a marathon dance contest. Filled with jazz and musicians, plane flights into the outback in search of a shell shocked veteran, and just Phryne's zest for life. THis book is incredibly fun. "
