Publisher Description

Resourceful, adventurous and utterly indefatigable, Sophy is hardly the mild-mannered girl that the Rivenhalls expect when they agree to take her in. Kind-hearted Aunt Lizzy is shocked; stern Cousin Charles and his humourless fiancée Eugenia are disapproving. With her inimitable mixture of exuberance and grace Sophy soon sets about endearing herself to her family, but finds herself increasingly drawn to her cousin. Can she really be falling in love with him, and he with her? And what of his betrothal to Eugenia?

"Such a lively romp! No sooner does Sophie arrive at the Rivenhall family's home than her high jinx begin. She must set about righting all the wrongs that are occurring in her dear relatives' family. This involves what is considered shocking behavior by those adhering to strict society rules. In the meantime, will her cousin Charles find an appropriate match for her as her father wishes? The last scene of the book involves such a mixture of people and problems that it is almost bedlam."

" Very well written but not exciting enough for me. She uses formal language from her time period of the the early 1900's. If you are a regency junkie you would probably like this as well. "

" My favorite Georgette Hayer book. Sophy's adventures are funny and captivating. The book keeps you guessing until the very end. A suspenseful, can't put it down, classic romance. In the numerous Hayer books I read all in a row, this one stood out. "

" A classic. Sophy returns to England from the battlefields of Spain (her father is a diplomat) and discovers her cousins in desperate need of her organizational skills. This summary, of course, doesn't do justice to Heyer's wit or clever characterization. Laugh-out-loud funny in spots! "

" Every character was so silly and each of them had no particular sense; but I guess that's the fun of the book. Don't read this if you can't take a joke or tend to take everything seriously. It's meant to be purely fun and cathartic. "
