" The pages alternate black and white/colored, which I don't like very much, but the pictures give a very good time and place to the song. One of the repetitions of a verse is left out, I don't know why. "

" Nice, but not as nice as most of Peter Spier's other books. And a bit difficult to sing along with, which, in my mind, makes it kind of pointless. But nice pictures all the same, and I really like the town-o! "

" A rather morbid folk song, but the illustrations were lovely.I loved that they alternated between color and black and white. "

" The fox and his family dine well on an old grey goose. Thought the images of the mother fox cleaning the goose for dinner were interesting. Not something kids see everyday. "

" I have been reading this book all of my life - to many children, and now to my own son. Peter Spier is a fantastic and surprising illustrator. This is, by far, August's favorite song! "
