Long ago on the magical island of Fincayra, the last emperor of the dragons took revenge against the realm for the slaughter of his mate and their only offspring. Merlin's grandfather, a mighty wizard, saved the land by casting a sleeping spell over the dragon.

The dragon called Wings of Fire has awakened from his enchanted slumber. Prophecy dictates that only the descendant of the wizard who first defeated the dragon possesses the power to stop him. Before Merlin can go to battle, he must conquer his own fears by confronting the sorceress who has stolen his magical talisman, a talisman needed to stop Wings of Fire. But according to the prophecy, the one who destroys the dragon must also die.

"I'm almost finished with this series and this was one of my favorites. There's an interesting passages where young Merlin encounters himself as the older, wiser wizard he is destined to become. I love this series! "

" This was my favorite so far. It offered the most adventure and it is nice to see that merlin is maturing and not being so selfish. Now he just needs to learn to have greater confidence in his abilities and reliance on others observations and opinions. "

" This isn't my favorite of the books, even though there is some really fun play on words. Basically, Merlin runs into his past and future nemisis Nimue. She uses her powers to return to the past in order to kill Merlin before he can become the powerful wizard of her future. "

" Another good book by Barron. I really liked the time travel and Merlin's meeting with his older self. I kind of guessed that the boy was not really Ector, but could be Arthur, but it was still good. "
