Publisher Description

Here is the original American full dramatization, as broadcast on National Public Radio.

In the ancient lands of Middle-earth, a place of elves and dwarves, Orcs and wizards, the darkest evil and the brightest good, a hobbit named Frodo Baggins embarks on a perilous quest: to carry the One Ring, ruler of all the Rings of Power, into the shadowy land of Mordor and destroy it in the fires where it was forged.

"I love this book, and will gratefully recommend it to anyone whom is searching for a great fantasy. The only reason this is given four stars is because I cannot concentrate for long periods at a time on the books. The descriptions Tolkien uses is just too much for me, my brain moves too quickly."

" It takes awhile to get rolling and Tolkien's writing is not always my bag. He likes explaining certain things in detail for no particular reason. Did the prologue really need to have a couple pages devoted to Pipe-weed? Apparently. Still, once the adventure truly begins, it's rather enjoyable. "

About J. R. R. Tolkien

J. R. R. Tolkien (1892–1973), beloved throughout the world as the creator of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and other tales of Middle-earth, was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. His chief interest was the linguistic aspects of the early English written tradition, but even as he studied these classics he was creating a set of his own. His books have been translated into more than fifty languages and have sold many millions of copies worldwide.
