Publisher Description

Imperial law enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon is good at her job: She can deter thieves and pacify thugs, if not with a blade, then by toppling an eight-foot pile of coffee canisters onto their heads. But when ravaged bodies show up on the waterfront, an arson covers up human sacrifices, and a powerful business coalition plots to kill the emperor, she feels a tad overwhelmed.

Worse, Sicarius, the empire's most notorious assassin, is in town. He's tied in with the chaos somehow, but Amaranthe would be a fool to cross his path. Unfortunately, her superiors order her to hunt him down. Either they have an unprecedented belief in her skills...or someone wants her dead.

"I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. Through the middle I started getting a little bored. The characters seemed stereotypical and packed depth. I was hoping for some sort of relationship to slowly build between them, but I felt character relationships were weak. There were a lot of little adventures that kept me reading but I found Amaranths ability to sweet talk her way out of just about every situation annoying. The dialog sounded like something a clinical counselor would say sometimes. Idk it just didn't feel believable to me. The end of the book was really good, though I'm not sure if I want to read the second one. I'm wavering between 3 or 4 stars"

" A fun fantasy book, but the interaction between characters is a but too cute for my taste. I enjoyed it, but have desire to read the rest of the books in the series. "

" i loved this book so much, I had to get the rest of the series. And I read them all one time. Amaranthe is a wonderful character to hinge a series on. A female character that is not simply hiding in the kitchen or mooning after guys. She has an agenda and she means business. "

" This is the first self-published book I've actually finished, and I really enjoyed it. The characters were unique, the setting was unusual for a fantasy story, and the pacing was excellent! "

" A surprising (as my two previous experiences with self-published books was definitely disappointing) quick and fun story. I will read more from this author. "
