Across the ruined landscape that is America - hopelessly poisoned, plague-ridden, burned, and besieged by demon armies bent on exterminating all mortal life - two pilgrims have been summoned to serve the embattled cause of good. Logan Tom has journeyed to desolate Seattle to protect a ragged band of street urchins and the being known as the gypsy morph, who is both mortal and magical, and destined to save mankind unless he is destroyed.

Likewise, Angel Perez has her own quest, one that will take her from the wreckage of Los Angeles to a distant, secret place untouched by the horrors of the nationwide blight - a place where the race of Elves has dwelled since before man existed. But close behind these lone Knights of the Word swarm the ravening forces of the Void.

As the menacing thunder of war drums heralds the arrival of the demons and their brutal minions in Seattle, the young survivors who call themselves the Ghosts are forced to brave the dangerous world of gangs, mutants, and worse to escape the invasion. And Logan Tom must infiltrate a refugee compound to rescue Hawk, the leader of the street urchins, who has yet to learn the truth about who and what he is.

Meanwhile, Angel Perez has joined an equally urgent mission: to find the Ellcrys, a fabled talisman crucial to protecting the Elven realm against an influx of unspeakable evil from the dread dimension known as the Forbidding. But Angel and her Elven allies must beware - for a demon spy, with a monstrous creature at its command, walks among them.

As the legions of darkness draw the noose tighter, and the time of confrontation draws near, those chosen to defend the soul of the world must draw their battle lines and prepare to fight with, and for, their lives. If they fail, humanity falls. Download and start listening now!

" This is the second book in the Genisis of Shannara series, and it is better than the first. This typically isn't the case. usually second books are just "all filla and no thrilla". This one did not disappoint. Brooks has some of the best characters in his stories and this one is no different. Even though it ends in a cliff hanger situation (which I hate). I still enjoyed it immensely. "

" Great series, can't wait to finish the third book. Its like reading a modern Lord of the Rings. "

" It never ceases to amaze me how comfortable and familiar it is to be reading a Terry Brooks Trilogy. This second book continues as gripping as the first with yet another cliffhanger ending for motivation to get started on the last (not that I would need any encouragement anyway). Its great to continue discovering more about how Shannara is formed and the development of the elven characters. I'll be starting the last in the trilogy tonight for sure! "

" Part 2 of the genesis of Shannara, while leaning slightly more towards his older style, is still refreshingly different. He continues to bring the post-apocalyptic earth and elven fantasy worlds closer together. As the first part, it moves at a slower pace, but keeps it interesting and fun while building up to the more exciting parts. "

" Great book. I love Terry Brooks. He writes so that you can have a new book every year. The third in this triology comes out in August and I can hardly wait....I will have to divide my time between this and the new Stephanie Meyers novel that comes out in August too. "

" Continuance of the story from "Children of Armageddon", and I get a big kick out of seeing Brooks tie the earlier books together so well. The only thing I don't like is that his new books come out once a year, so I have to wait a whole year to find out how it turns out!! Very annoying. "

" Look, I like Terry Brooks, but this series to me is more a money grab than anything else.
These books ARE NOT up to the standards set in the original Shannara series. That doesn't mean they're not good, but I was expecting better. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Angie | 1/30/2011

" I really like this series. Since I have read all these books I feel like Brooks repeated some of his themes in the Genesis of Shannara series. Several things that happen in this series also occur in the other Shannara books. Still they were very enjoyable. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Elisa | 12/28/2010

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Bernard | 11/15/2010

" I enjoyed this book! While book 1 was setting up everything (and extremely boring), book 2 takes off with a roar!

Who ever thought we would see a rebel staff bearer? Showdown between demon and elves and the start of the Shannara legacy!

I'm eager to begin book 3 immediately. "
