Two masters of epic fantasy have combined in this brilliant collaboration to create a rousing tale. This is the story of Shana, a half-breed born of the forbidden union of an Elvenlord father with a human mother. Her exiled mother dead, Shana was rescued and raised by dragons, a proud, ancient race who existed unbeknownst to elven or human kind. From birth, Shana was the embodiment of the Prophecy that the all-powerful Elvenlords feared. Her destiny is the enthralling adventure of a lifetime.

" Light but decent reading "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Molly | 2/15/2014

" The stunted sentences left me drowning in descriptions and the plot didn't seem to be going anywhere. The characters keep switching off so there was no continuity and it was just awkward to read. Couldn't muddle through it. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Julie | 2/14/2014

" I don't normally read a lot of fantasy, I just was in the mood for a good story and this wasn't it. Suprising little actually happened, and the end was so anticlimactic. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Lynne | 2/5/2014

" I really did enjoy this book. At times, I could see what was going to happen and didn't want to read it, so I would put the book down. It would take a while before I would pick it back up. The story does capture your attention very quickly. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Shannon | 1/31/2014

" This is another great book by Mercedes Lackey, but I do not like it nearly as much as some of her others. It is worth reading if only to get a completely different view of elves, dragons, unicorns, humans, and half-bloods. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Lindsay | 1/24/2014

" This book kept me enthralled. The world created was believable and the main characters were very likeable. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jennifer | 1/12/2014

" I liked the role reversals of the traditional dragon, elf, and human; it made the story more original. The dragons are the moral, good creatures while the elves are the antagonists, the force to be challenged. It was enjoyable to read. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Nora aka Diva | 1/9/2014

" While this book starts out slow, it builds to an exciting climax that will leave you wanting more. The characters are interesting and well developed. I just may have to get the next one. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Sam | 1/5/2014

" I read it in High School I think. So its been awhile. But I liked the strong heroine and the raised by dragons part. But it just seemed like one big intro for a larger series rather than a book that could stand on its own well. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 David | 12/16/2013

" Quite a decent fantasy title -- definitely enjoyed the first half of the book, but the latter half is difficult to parse. And dragons are always win. "

" Lackey is one of my favorite authors and I really do prefer books that she has written by herself. However, I will go on and read the second and then probably look for the third book as well. Dare I hope that one of the good guys actually survived for the second in the series?? Time will tell. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jessica | 6/28/2011

" An interesting world, where humans are slaves and elves run things. A prophecy has dictated that a half-elf, half-human will destroy the elves' rule one day, so it is illegal to crossbreed. . . . "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Greg | 5/9/2011

" Perfectly cromulent fantasy, with a touch of other-planet sci-fi. Certainly, it's way better than most collaborations in fantasy, which are generally lifeless and terrible. Ideas are better than the actual story, which bodes well for the second two books in the trilogy. "

Oh yeah, it's about elves, humans and all that in-between good stuff! Read it yourself :) "
