" this novel changed my world. One summer, having just returned from a backpacking trip to England -my first time there - a friend, my high ex-school english teacher, said, you really should read this book. I have never been the same since. "

" I really can't recommend this book enough and if you enjoyed the tv series then i am sure you will adore the books. Reading this book has taken me back to my childhood when i first watched the show, easy reading and the characters are like old friends to me. My one complaint is that the book is not long enough, just over 100 pages which seem to fly by much too fast. "

" One of the best books ever written. Don't know how many times I have read it, but I still love it! Perfick! "

" I think I would of really loved this book if I lived in a world where flouting conventions was rare and striking. Then I would of more fully enjoyed the subversive comedy of the Larkin's lifestlye, I would of smiled more broadly at Pop's gaudy galleon shaped cocktail bar and found it funnier that he'd only ever read one book. As it is, I live in a world where the binge drinking, tax evasion, and general excess advertised by the Larkin way of life has long since replaced any conservative conventions. So, though the book is definitely funny, though it pokes fun, and though the descriptions are wonderfully crafted, it left me feeling sentimental, even a little sad, wishing for a return to a time that has long since passed. "
