Publisher Description

Debbie Ford explains that the dark side of our personality should not be hidden. By denying our dark side, we reject these aspects of our true natures rather than giving ourselves the freedom to live authentically. Here she shows that it is possible to acknowledge and accept our so-called weaknesses, proving that these qualities may be important, hidden strengths. For example, perhaps some selfishness can save us from exhaustion and resentment.

Full of illuminating stories and practical exercises, Debbie Ford shows us how to reconcile our darker impulses and find the gifts they offer. Your life will be transformed when you unconceal, own, and embrace your shadow.

"This is a book about honesty -- not in the words we use but in our thoughts. We tend to accept things about ourselves that are not true like "I'm worthless." This idea then leads to poor self-esteem and lots of other behaviors. I went deep into this book and did the challenges at the end of each chapter. I discovered some things about myself that I never would have imagined. I also threw off some lies."

" This was a good book for shadow work, by which I mean exploring the dark parts of the self that one hides from oneself and then reflexively projects onto others. Invaluable! "

" Awesome book for getting to know yourself better. Did you know that your probably guilty for whatever irritates you most in another person? This book takes a look at our dark sides (which we all have). Really great, with awesome exercises at the chapters' end. "

" Debbie Ford doesn't try to bring anything new to the table with this book and she admits to this right from the beginning. She does however provide a layman's methodology to self analysis. If you are a dedicated and disciplined writer and like to keep journals than this book can be used as a useful guide. For the theory part I suggest someone to go to Ken Wilber's book entitled "No Boundary". "

" I learned visualization techniques to discover what is really going on inside my mind. The experience was one of the most powerful and enlightening. I was not viewing myself in the way I thought I was. It has been very helpful to me. Our minds are a very powerful thing and the connection to our emotions is much stronger than we realize. "

" This book relies heavily on the Jungian belief of accepting your darker sides. Ford provides several exercises to help you become a more well-rounded and whole person. There's not anything truly new and radical in the book, but she has made the concept and work more accessible to lay people. "
