F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the greatest American writers, is best known for The Great Gatsby, considered by many to be the most important novel of the twentieth century. But Fitzgerald also made his living as a short story writer, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Other Jazz Age Tales collects four of his best.

The title story is a fantasy tale about a man who is in his seventies at birth and progressively ages backwards. The other stories included in this collection are “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz,” “Tarquin of Cheapside,” and “O Russet Witch!”

" Don't read this story and expect the movie to be anything like it, or vice versa. It has an interesting moral to the story, though. "

" While I'm not altogether familiar with Fitzgerald's style, this book was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a more serious book, perhaps a commentary on life during the end of the 19th century but it was a rather clever and witty book, though not his best work. I've only seen parts of the movie based on this book, which I'm sure took many liberties with the novella, but I'm sure many people would be disappointed with the many departures. I did not have such a problem, and I'm sure anyone familiar with classic literature would agree. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jeremy Rear | 12/21/2013

" Not as impressed as I thought I would be. First off, it's a short story and doesn't really lend itself to be, considering the plot. Secondly, I'm rather dissapointed that the plot details were much truncated during the second half of the story. It appears as if the author was hurried to get it to print. Not impressed. Haven't seen the movie, so maybe I should to get a different perspective. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jen | 12/18/2013

" This wasn't what i was expecting at all. It left, to me, entirely to many unanswered questions. I guess that's why it's really a "short story" not a book, but still. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Cameron | 12/2/2013

" I can see why people like him so much. This is my first taste of Fitzgerald and I did enjoy the book and will try others. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ramona Tudor | 11/15/2013

" The story is quite okay, but one must confess that the movie, even though Brad Pitt is starring Benjamin Button, is way better than the short story. Even so, I fancied with the book... It was funny and the idea that shines in the film, we must not forget, comes from this little story. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Mandy Woods | 11/9/2013

" Some of the stories stick out above others, definitely some jazz era prejudice too but the story telling is good. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Miik | 9/25/2013

" I liked the concept on Benjamin button, what I couldn't grasp was unlike the film he was born a fully grown old man? In the film he was a baby that looked like an old man. How could that be physcially possible? "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Leidz Lannister | 12/30/2012

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Jimmy | 12/23/2011

" Works well as a fairy tale-short story, very simple and parred down plot, bittersweet and wistful. Nothing like the film, which only kept the title and name of the main character. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Deanne | 10/16/2011

" Cute premise. Simple story. I listened to it while I was cleaning the kitchen one day. It was really short and a nice little diversion. Nothing to inspire profound thoughts, or to impress with great literary technique. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Nina Chachu | 9/19/2011

" Wasn't very substantial... Maybe this was definitely a case of the movie being better than the book? "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Cheryl | 5/10/2011

" Loved this story. I read it on the Nook app on my blackberry and it was quite easy to read that way. I would have loved the characters to be fleshed out a little more, but the concept is great.
Now I want to see the movie version. "

" I liked it and didn't like it at the same time. I actually felt sad. The MC was mistreated and misunderstood the entire time and it wasn't his fault! The movie is very different from this. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Shayma | 4/22/2011

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Bob | 4/21/2011

" Reminded me of why I love Fitzgerald - a virtuoso painter of the Jazz Age. His short stories are unique and unpredictable, and he writes beautifully. Although a few of the stories are somewhat strangely abstract, they are mostly absorbing snapshots of lives, told with poignancy and humor. "
