Publisher Description

A picturesque town. A woman on the run. An undercover agent. The first riveting novel in Catherine Coulter’s #1 New York Times bestselling FBI Thriller series.

Sally Brainerd can’t remember what happened the night her father was murdered. Maybe she did it. Or maybe it was her poor, traumatized mother. Either way, the safest place for her is far away from Washington, D.C. But while her aunt’s home in The Cove should be a quiet refuge, Sally can’t shake the feeling that there’s something not quite right about the postcard perfect little town.

Despite his target’s checkered past and convenient memory loss, FBI Special Agent James Quinlan isn’t convinced she’s the killer—but maybe she knows who is. As he uses his cover to get close to Sally and unearth the memories her mind has hidden away, James can’t deny his connection to the troubled woman. But as their lies and passions intertwine, Sally and James soon learn they aren’t the only ones keeping deadly secrets in The Cove….

" Another FBI thriller I realized I had read before. I was hoping it was the Savich/Sherlock story, because that one I'm sure I HAVEN'T read. Still I liked it. "

" There was something weird about this book that I picked up on in the first two chapters and never improved. It may be attributable to being written by a romance author. Had I know that in advance, I might not have read it. The plot drags and the characters are unlikable at best, but most are annoying. I found myself hoping they all get killed just to make things interesting. The resolution of the mystery was absurd (get everyone together and they spontaneous confesss), the repeated discussions of being institutionalized were obnoxious and the odd sprinkling of smutty sex scenes were bizarre (yet mercifully brief). What a piece of junk. There is nothing "thrilling" about this book, except the exhilaration of tossing it. "

" Nice new series to start . . . a bit simple in plot at first, but if definitely improved as it went. Looking forward to the next book in the series. "

" I thought it would have been a mystery... no a romance. Might have been better if it was more G-rated and left more things to the imagination. "

" I had forgotten how good this series is. Dillon Savich is such a geek that you can really see how much technology has changed since this book was written. And gosh, these quaint small towns America are scary places :) "

" Seriously I like murder mysteries but this book was ridiculous! The end was totally unrealistic (a whole town participates in serial murders). Little too sexy as well. "

" Fairly standard thriller/romance matchup. I found most of the scenario ludicrous and utterly implausible. I also thought that everything felt blocky and disjointed. It just didn't come together for me at all. Oh well, maybe I'll try one of her later books and see if it isn't more to my liking. "

" Awful book with a laughably melodramatic plot. A protagonist that I would like to shake senseless and a hero who is so wooden that he should be named Pinocchio. I managed to get a quarter of the way through before the pile of ironing seemed like the more interesting alternative to reading this book. "
