In this Jane Austen-style sweet romance, a foundling girl, Emma Carrington, was raised and sent to work as a servant girl for The Countess of Holmeshire. The widowed and unconventional Countess chose her as her companion and sent her off for finishing. She was dragged along into snobbish, aristocratic Victorian society where she received a cold reception at tea and dinners - if she was allowed to accompany her mistress at all.
Emma had eyes for the young Earl of Holmeshire, but he was engaged by arrangement to a lovely London lady, Genevieve, and Emma was out of his class. Humorous tribulations attend a banned romance of servants downstairs as we follow Emma and the Holmeshires from a stone fortress to a Victorian village and then into fabulous London mansions. Men in tatters follow Emma, and strange gentlemen spy on Genevieve. Answers to this mystery unfold at a Midsummer Night's Dream Ball. Listeners express great surprise at the revelation of the last few minutes!

"I enjoyed this book. It had a Jane Austen vibe to it. In the book you get several characters' pointe of view. I did find myself at times wishing I read the main character's point of view more. I will definitely read more books by this author." — Aly (4 out of 5 stars)

" Starts out kind of full of itself, but the story drives the book, and as you get into it that story line carries you to a surprise. A nice, comfortable read "
" I liked this book! Set in early 1900 or late 1800 England, this book had a lot of surprises and old English stuffiness. Those royals.....sheesh. Some of them can be such snobs. If you like Downton Abbey, you very likely will like this book! "
" Absolutely LOVED IT!!! I couldn't put it down! Longer review to come later when I catch up on my other reviews. "
" Not bad but the hero and heroine hardly speak to one another throughout the book. It was a clean romance and a kindle freebie so I can't complain. "
" I really had trouble keeping people straight in this book, and some characters were dropped in with introduction. "
