"Collection of short stories by Bentley Little. My favorite was "The Washingtonians" which I just recently found out was made into a movie by Masters of Horror. Great reading when you just have time to get a few pages in here and there. Each story is new and weird."

" Bentley Little is gruesome, gory and quite out-there but most of his books are great, and this short story book was no exception. My favorites were Estoppel, The Washingtonians, Life With Father, Roommates, Maya's Mother, and Colony. "

" Little tries with all his might to copy that clever Stephen King way of making the ordinary seem sinister. And utterly fails. This collection of short stories was awesomely laughable. I think my two favorites were: the one in which all the roadside trash on an interstate highway gathers up into an evil rubbish cloud to kill all passersthrough & the one in which a regular joe is boiling up some noodles for Kraft dinner when the water suddenly turns red and he sees his father's face within it, urging him to "Kill! Kill!" Ahahahahahahah! Not scary, but very funny! "

" Another review I've read on this short story collection lambasts people for comparing Little to Stephen King, and that is a sentiment I greatly agree with - for entirely different reasons. King is a wordsmith whose work should be recognized as true literary art outside of the realm of strictly 'horror' fiction; Little's work is hackneyed and pure pulp, trumped up for shock value with very little beneath imagery used more to appall the reader than anything else. Each story in this collection can be likened to a low-budget horror B-movie: violence, gore, and very little plot worth noticing. Absolutely useless. "

" These were really well written and engrossing stories. But a lot of them were just too dark of subject matter for me. One of them detailed a sexually abusive dad. Of course the kids got their revenge which was great but it was just too too too. "
