Publisher Description

On Nancy’s eighteenth birthday, her father tells her she must marry her cousin Abner, the town’s blacksmith. He’s already married to three other women, one of them her younger sister. Nancy runs away and gets lost in the woods. Hungry and cold, she finds a seemingly deserted cabin and takes shelter. When she meets Jake, the man who owns it, she must decide if he is a man she can trust. Tired of living alone in the wilderness, he is willing to wait for Nancy to learn to care for him. She expects to spend her life there, but Abner has other ideas. Thinking they will only be safe in one place, Jake takes Nancy to his childhood home, Manhattan, Kansas.

About Donna Mabry

A Michigan native who studied writing in school, Donna Mabry first moved to Las Vegas to make costumes and soon was weaving the stories she heard in the back of the girls’ dressing room into her first of many novels. She has also written three screenplays, a stage play, poetry, short stories, and a deeply personal account of her grandmother’s life titled “Maude” which has thus far spent more than sixteen weeks running on the Wall Street Journal’s bestseller list. Donna still takes occasional classes at University of Nevada, Las Vegas and at writer’s conferences and is an active member of the Anthem Authors in Henderson, NV.
