" This book is great! Long, but good. One of the only ways I came to understand the old testament. I read the Christmas story out of this book every year. It is very human, from the sounds and smells and all the bloody details of what a birth really is. If God really came to us as a human, nothing I had read before ever really convinced me this was true. This is different. "

" Quite an epic. It was the bible story as told as a novel. I enjoyed the beginning Old Testament stories but had great difficulty with the "Kings" Old Testament. Loved the interpretation of the new testament. At 630 pages it's quite a read. "

" You don't need to be a Christian to enjoy this read. Lots of great adventure stories. Well written and easy to read. Why not try it, then you can say you've read the bible! not many people have read it all. "

" This was a very interesting way to read the bible. It definetly put more of people's emotions into it, which I foudn to be interesting. Sometimes though, it felt a bit strange to think of biblical characters in this way. Obviously we don't really know how people truly felt and won't know till we meet them in heaven. "

" I got about 1/3 of the way through this novel & had to put it down. I just couldn't get into it. I found myself daydreaming & thinking of things OTHER than the novel. I am curious about the book though & do plan to give it another chance..just at a later date. :) "

" I almost have a hard time rating something Biblical so low- it makes me feel bad. At any rate, Wangerin is not a favorite author of mine, I find his writing dry and too lengthy. It took me a long time to get going in this book, and the New Testament portion was better than the Old Testament. I tried to look at it more as a scripture reading than a pleasure read and I think that helped. "

" This is an excellent way present the Bible in a condensed story form. Walter Wangerin has obviously used the art of story telling in presenting this book. What comes out is fine novel with the Great Books of the Old and New Testament in the background. Higly recommended. "
