Publisher Description

The first entry in Leslie Stewart's diary read: Dear Diary; This morning I met the man I am going to marry. It was simple, optimistic statement, without the slightest portent of the dramatic chain of events that was about to occur. The Best Laid Plans tells the explosive story of the beautiful and ambitious Leslie Stewart, who learns that for some men power is the greatest aphrodisiac, and of Oliver Russell, the handsome governor of a small southern state, who finds out why hell has no fury like a woman scorned.

With the unexpected twists and turns that are the hallmark's of his mega-best-selling novels, Sidney Sheldon spins a tale of two equally determined people headed on a collision course. Oliver has a strategy to win the White House; Leslie has a scheme to make him wish he's never been born. They both should have known that even the best-laid plans can go dangerously astray...with deadly consequences.

The Best Laid Plans takes listeners inside two of America's most powerful and ruthless institutions: the world of politics with it's scandals, corruption, and cover-ups; and that of newspaper publishing, where it is not unusual to use the power of the press to destroy lives - or bring down heads of state - in pursuit of a story or to settle a score.

"This was the first Sheldon`s book I`ve read, the one that made me fall in love with his work. It`s strong and raw and real, just how I like it. It shows just what makes the world go round and the way things really are. If I ever get the chance to be invisible, the first thing I`ll do is to go to some secret goverment archive and read the documentation about all the shit they`ve been doing for centuries and how they`ve been cleaning it up later on. I bet I would find a lot of interesting things there - alien landings, secret conspiracies, bombings of some poor little third-world countries, testing nuclear weapons and god knows what else."

" For such a short book The Best Laid Plans seems to send so much of the time doing nothing. The premise as laid out in the first chapter promises a intelligent and sophisticated plot albeit with zero believable personalities. But ultimately is a forgettable experience with a very unintelligent plot. The politics felt unnecessary and the main protagonist, whoever that is supposed to be did almost nothing to core plot. "

" I'm a Sheldon's fan. This book was a little different because the author ignored his main character (Leslie) and brought out Dana, who kind of fill the spots. Even thought Dana was great character, I'd like to have seem more of Leslie or perhaps a friendship between these two women. "

" I've read this piece one innocent vacation and suddenly fell in love with the brutality and wit-conflicts a novel could provide: this is one good example where a woman's life can be so complicated, without it being love-centric. Well, sure the main reason is love. But power hungry is the main theme, with an all out war of strategies. It is an okay book in retrospect, I've read many more interesting books since, but this one can't seem to leave my mind at ease to be forgotten. It was very, and still is entertaining and well paced book. The rating is mostly for its hard-to-forget after taste. "

" This is simply wonderful. It totally got me. It shows us how once a heart that loved can hate and crave for revenge as well as how people can be blinded by the desire to have power, so that the ones you loved may be forgotten overnight. It also shows us the people wearing sheep masks are the wolves underneath. "

" In my High School Years I was absolutely enthralled with what I thought were brilliant and twisting plots written by Sidney Sheldon. Well, either I've grown or he's grown predictable, because although I read the book quickly, I absolutely predicted every 'twist' and the ending. "
