Publisher Description

Young Persian Prince Orasmyn lives a peaceful life of quiet duty and thoughtful obedience. Tending his fragrance garden gives him much more pleasure than the bloody royal hunts staged by his father. But a single wrong decision sets in motion an ancient curse that changes Orasmyn's fate forever. Told he will be killed by his own father, he is transformed into a lion on the day of a great hunt. The prince has no choice but to flee beloved Persia and his precious family. Balancing his fading human memories with his new beastly impulses, he makes his way to Europe - where his destiny awaits in the person of a French beauty named Belle. Donna Jo Napoli once again weaves the magic she has shown in books like Crazy Jack and Zel , transforming a well-known fairy tale into an unforgettable epic of duty, love, and redemption. Robert Ramirez's narration captures all the anguish and struggle of Orasmyn's quest to regain his humanity.

"Awful cover, good story. A lot of Persian references, very colourful; it's literally told from the point of view of a beast. Very entertaining if you have some knowledge of Islam and if your favourite fairy tale as a child was Beauty and the Beast."

" Beast was a little wierd. I normally love books that tell a classic story from someone else's perspective, but this one was pretty choppy and odd. For instance, there is a rather raunchy scene between a couple of lions, and nobody needs that. It was pretty gross. "

" A telling of the 'Beauty and Beast', before and throughout the the time the Beast became beast. It takes you on a journey or how a man becomes and animal and how this animal once more becomes a man. For any fairy-tale lovers out there, this is certainly a twist to the well-known fable. "

" it takes a it to get into this book but once in it's a great story. although recognizable as the traditional tale of beauty and the beast it is told form the beasts point of view...I liked it better than McKinley's Beauty. "

" Terrible, boring book the includes the MC who is still fully human of mind, but animal of body mating with other animals that are strictly animals. The ick factor broke the meter for me. "

" This was so unbelievably boring I couldn't even finish the first chapter. I really don't like Donna Jo Napoli; the best rating I've ever given one of her books is 'meh.' She has these great ideas and then ruins them completely. I don't know how she manages to do this over and over again. "

" I tried but I couldn't get into this re-telling of the beauty and the beast story. Stilted dialogue, uninteresting characters, and way too many words in Arabic(?)translated into English causing the story to stop moving forward. "

" An adaptation of the Beauty and the Beast story. In it, a Persian prince is turned into a lion, and makes his way to France, where he encounters a young woman that may be able to break the spell he's under. Very exotic, very enjoyable. "
